Much of the CD's music draws inspiration from American history and landmarks, including stirring works like “Birmingham,” composed in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and “Mississippi River,” a musical portrayal of North America's longest river.

![]() Holidays of the New Era (November 2006), a 2-CD set released by ERM Media, is a collection of contemporary holiday music performed by the Kiev Philharmonic and Chamber Choir KYIV. Music by 18 American composers is included, including Two December Carols by Carl Schroeder. Schroeder's Two December Carols, for chorus and piano or harp, sets texts by Minnesota poets Joyce Kennedy and Shannon King, and was written to honor the 30th anniversary of Minnesota musician Carsten Slostad's tenure as conductor of the St. Paul-based Wells Fargo Chorus.
