Southwest Memories and other music by Carl Schroeder, released in fall 2019, is a CD of 12 original works for concert band and solo piano composed by Carl Schroeder. Highlights include "Southwest Memories," a nostalgic work composed in honor of Southwest High School’s 75th anniversary; "Spin," inspired by the composer’s childhood bike trips; "Remembrance," inspired by the many who served in the American Civil War; "The Willing," dedicated to members of the U.S. Armed Forces; and seven solo piano works performed by the composer, including "A Celestial Triptych," a three-movement piece inspired by the outer space landscape paintings of Kendall Bohn. The ensembles performing on the CD are the Minnesota Symphonic Winds, Southwest Wind Ensemble, Edina Symphonic Band and Cornell University Symphonic Band. |
